Location and relief
Târgovişte Municipality is located in the plain under the hills which bears its name, part of the high foothill plain, at the contact area between the Getic Subcarpathians and the Romanian Plain. The city benefits from a favourable position, near the parallel of 45°, namely 44°56' Northern latitude and the meridian of 25°26' Eastern longitude.
Found at the crossing of old commercial roads (Buzău, Brăila, Giurgiu, Braşov, Câmpulung), the municipality is an important node of road and railway communication ways, being located at only 78 km of Bucureşti, at 48 km of Ploieşti and 110 km of Braşov.

Climate
The climate of Târgovişte city is determined by the geographical location and relief. The parallel of 45° which passes by the Northern part of the municipality territory (Şotânga-Doiceşti-Aninoasa) and which represents not only half of the distance between the pole and equator but also between the peaks of Southern Carpathians and the Romanian Plain explains the continental climate of the city.
History
Royal court and capital city between 1396 and 1714, Târgoviște city had for more than three centuries the status as the most important economic, political-military and cultural-artistic centre of Wallachia.
Târgovişte was the residence of important voivodes - 33 in total, country but also accent-loving princes, who developed permanently Târgovişte, being in those times an important European city
